Our brains may have limited resources but we are constantly doing multiple things at once, for example while writing this blog I’m: thinking about Who I want to be, Focusing on what I’m writing, pressing multiple keys without looking at the keyboard (I’m sure you get the point by now). Our brains process things subconsciously to save resources,(these are what habits are, but more on that in another blog) your brain is constantly thinking about the issues that are most important to you, whether you are doing something else or whether you are sleeping.
Whenever you feel like you can’t focus on things, this is probably because your brain is subconsciously processing so much information that it’s affecting your conscious flow.

Your brain is constantly looking for patterns and connections. During a Eureka moment, your brain suddenly connects the dots between pieces of information that previously seemed unrelated. This is a result of your brain’s natural ability to recognise patterns and solve problems. Your brain then recognises patterns in the new information (in relation to previously learnt knowledge) and then “Eureka” the moment of heightened clarity and understanding happens.
Right Hemisphere Activation:
The right hemisphere of your brain, which is involved in creative thinking and seeing the big picture, becomes more active. This increased activity can help you make novel connections and see solutions from a different perspective. Rememeber the Alpha waves? These waves increase your brains creativity by effectively calming down the right hemisphere and allowing for divergent thinking the brain can see solutions from problems that it couldn’t see before.

Imagine you’re trying to figure out what your calling in life is but can’t figure it out. You decide to take a break and go for a walk. As you walk, your brain continues to think about the things you’ve felt in the past and what really brought those feelings of elation to your mind, all in the background. Suddenly, while looking at the trees, something clicks in your mind. You realise just exactly what you want to do! This is an Eureka moment. The break allowed your brain to relax and think creatively, leading to a sudden insight.
The Only Problem with Eurika Moments:
I’ve told many people about the “eureka” moment before and they all seem to draw the same conclusion “So I just have to wait”. This is not to be mistaken with just being idle waiting for this moment, because this moment can only happen when your brain makes connections between new patterns and old patterns, for a eureka moment to happen you need to feed your brain new ideas, concepts, and knowledge.
